Join other carers for a virtual Cuppa

The Mobilise online, or virtual, cuppa is a free 45 min video call where you can connect with around 12 other people who are also looking after a loved one.

We’re entirely focussed on supporting unpaid carers, rather than the person they look after. Share a laugh or some tears, we’ve all been there and you won’t find a more understanding group. Our cuppas and the community around them is created by carers, for carers.

It's just great to know others are there, to listen at least. Great to actually 'see' other carers as well as talk to them and share ideas

All you need to join is a device with access to the internet, a microphone and speakers. A camera is also useful but not essential. Most smartphones will work just fine.

With over 500 cuppas under our belt, we’re experienced at facilitating a cuppa. Each of our cuppas has a theme and everyone gets a chance to express themselves.

Every unpaid carer is warmly welcomed to join us, simply choose a time to suit you from our timetable.

When are the online cuppas?

We hold online cuppas most weekdays - take a look at our timetable for this week here

You can join as many of them as you like. There is no limit and we hope it becomes part of your routine.

Every Cuppa is a bit different.  I'd say give it a try a few times before you decide if it is right for you.

What happens on a cuppa?

The format is really simple, just like a video call with friends or family.  The small groups of around 10 come together for a conversation about how it's going. Your host will be there to help people to join the conversation if they want to but once we get settled people really do chat very naturally.

Cuppas are a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk about the things that are important to you. Cuppas have different themes and you can choose what sessions take your fancy - the topic for each session is included in our weekly timetable.

Most people have their cameras on and microphones open so they can chat easily.  As well as the 'live' conversation on the screen you can also discuss what's going on using the chat function.

After about 45 minutes the host will bring the conversation to a close with a brief reflection or uplifting closing round.

People were honest about how things were for them without it feeling panicky.  I came away with the motivation to take action on a couple of things. Plus a lovely bunch of people

Do I need to sign up or book?

No just turn up! Just click on the link next to the cuppa you'd like to join on our timetable.  The first time you do this you might want to start five minutes before the session starts.  You'll be taken to a Zoom waiting room and the host will let you in when the Cuppa begins.

What do I need to join?

We use zoom for our video calls. You may have used it with friends or family before. All that is required is a smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer with:

  • Speakers

  • A microphone

  • A camera (ideally)

I've never used Zoom before, how can I get ready?

To make things super easy you might like to download Zoom onto your device.  Search for Zoom in the "app store" or "play store" or go to Zoom to download onto your laptop.  Zoom works well on laptops, smart phones and tablets.  It will connect with your microphone, speakers and camera if you have one.  To check everything is up and running you can test things out here: https://zoom/us/test

This was my first ever video call, it was easier than I thought and I really enjoyed it

Who are Mobilise?

We're led by carers, for carers, providing free, personalised guidance and coaching.  And we learn from the best - the UK's invisible army of unpaid carers.  Together we're muddling through with a giggle, a wobble and a healthy dose of humour.  In fact by joining the Cuppa you have the opportunity to be part of this community who contribute, share and learn together.

....be it for a child, mum, dad, husband, wife, brother, sister - at home, in a care home - round the corner!! Everyone has something to share to help each other.

Are the Mobilise Cuppas confidential?

Our Mobilise Cuppas are a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to talk about the things that are important to you. It is ok to share the themes that come up in cuppas with others but not ok to talk about names individuals.

These cuppas have been a real life line for me.
