Focus on yourself and talk about what’s important to you

We’re funded by local government to support unpaid carers and we find the best way to do this is through conversation. You can talk to someone who will listen and understand.  All of our support team are caring for someone too.

I can’t quite believe this service is free and I can book in at a time that works for me

It's natural that you might have some questions before you book! Read on to find out more. Or if you are ready to chat you can book a slot straightaway

I’m working or busy during the day, can I book a call in the evening?

You can book a 30 minute slot to suit you, our team are available in the evenings and at weekends too.

Mobilise is not a crisis line, so if you need immediate support, please see our 24 hours emergency support page.

I’ve got lots to talk about, how can I get the most out of a 30 minute call?

This is your time to talk about whatever is most important to you.  You can take a moment to prepare and think about your ideal outcome for the call.  What would you like to be different?

Our team are experts at getting the most out of these conversations and their coaching approach will help you to stay on track.  Don't try and solve a wide range of issues in one call, you can always book a further call to tackle a different topic or to continue the conversation.

Can I have more than one call?

Yes absolutely, although we always recommend leaving some thinking and doing time in between calls.  If ongoing support is needed we'll help you work out your next steps.

What is a "coaching approach"?

Our support team have their own experience of caring as well as ongoing training in coaching techniques.  They will listen and reflect back what they are hearing.  They will ask simple but powerful questions.  Coaching is about partnering with you to move you forwards towards your goals, leaving you in control of your situation and the choices that you make.

We won’t tell you what to do or swamp you with advice, but if we've got some tried and tested tips from our carers community we'll share them.

The conversations are there for the whole of you, not just your caring role.  It might be that in our conversation we identify a need for a different kind of support such as counselling, befriending, a listening service or crisis support.  We'll help you to connect with the best support for you.

I’m not sure this is for me, I’m a bit nervous

That’s very normal and completely ok! There are no right or wrong answers here but it might help to know that the call will be confidential*, you can talk about whatever is important to you, plus it’s completely ok to be emotional. You can focus on practical challenges or simply discover the benefits of someone listening to you and giving you space to work through your emotions.

*If we feel that you or someone else may be at risk of harm we may need to contact someone to ensure your or their safety.

What do other people talk about?

Every call is unique but there are some common themes:

  • Working through a practical challenge, creating a plan to move forwards

  • Stepping back from a difficult or emotional situation with a fresh pair of eyes

  • Talking through a difficult challenge that seems to have no solution

  • Focus on your wellbeing

  • Taking some time to focus on you outside of your caring role

What difference will a call make?

It really is up to you, but in just 30 minutes other carers have:

  • Moved from procrastination into action

  • Felt lighter just from having talked to someone

  • Made a decision

  • Reached acceptance about a situation

  • Learnt about themselves, growing self-awareness
