Here are the results from yesterday’s Mobilise Moments poll.

Support from your Local Council

Yesterday, we asked "How do you rate the support you receive from your local authority or council?"

Today's Mobilise Moment, asking you about the Care Act 2014, ties in very closely with yesterday's question about the support you receive from your Local Authority or Council. As we have the right to receive support and protection from our Local Authority/Council.

Our results to the question "How do you rate the support you receive from your local authority or council?", shows that carers don't rate the support we receive very highly at all. 55.5% of us rated their support under a three. This means they are receiving no support or very little support. This contrasts sharply with 13% rating over a three, meaning they are well supported or very well supported.

These ratings do mirror the comments and feedback we hear in our community and on our cuppas. If you're struggling with your local authority, have a quick chat with one of our carer support team (they're free). They're all experienced carers and will talk through your challenges.

The cause of these ratings is not explored further (we'll do that in the future), so it is important to add some context. Local authorities or councils, may be paying for services (like your local carer centre or Mobilise) to provide support on their behalf. So this may confuse the picture somewhat.

There are 152 different Councils or Local Authorities in England alone, with a further 32 in Scotland, 22 in Wales and 11 in Northern Ireland. This inevitably leads to large differences in the type and nature of support offered. It would be very interesting to explore variations in each region but that would need a lot more respondents to Mobilise Moments!

If you know anyone that looks after someone regularly and who could contribute to our shared understanding of the lives of carers - please point them in the direction of signing up to Mobilise Moments here. Every extra person makes a huge difference.

If you have some examples of great support provided by your Local Authority check out our Facebook Group, where we've just started a thread. We're keen to pull together what great looks like and share it more widely with key decision makers in Government,

Notes: Mobilise is funded, in part, by Local Authorities to provide online carer support.
