Here are the results from yesterday’s Mobilise Moments poll.
Our mental health
Yesterday we asked: Have you received mental health support in your caring role?
Only 12.5% of us feel that we don't need any support for our mental health, whilst whopping 44% of us have not received support but would like it.
Isolation, stress, exhausting work, little time for ourselves and in many cases abandoning careers are just some of things we may have gone through which could seriously affect our mental health. This poll is particularly illuminating, showing that 87.5% of our community have (or had) a mental health need at some point.
Provision of mental health support nationally is well documented as being hard to access, often with lengthy waiting times and this has further been exacerbated by Coronavirus. Access to support and diagnosis is now more challenging and all of us are feeling additional pressures as a result of the virus. The government is so concerned by the impact of the virus that they have produced a mental health and wellbeing action plan.
The fantastic folks over at Mind have a great tool to help you if you need it. In the meantime, whilst we are not mental health practitioners, if you feel you would like to talk to someone about the challenges of your caring situation, book a call with our carer support team. It's completely free and they are all carers themselves. It's available seven days a week between 8am and 10pm.
Get support in your caring role, contact your local carer centre. Find out who is closest using this nifty tool from the Carers Trust.
