Carer's Assessment

Yesterday we asked: Have you had a carer's assessment?

It's great to see that almost 60% of us have had a carer's assessment. Anyone (aged over 18 years) who provides care for someone is entitled to one.

In some areas, our local carers' centres can undertake the assessments, or we can simply contact adult social care.

An assessment takes a look at your whole caring role and makes recommendations for support that can be put in place. As an example, this could include:

  • a befriending service (to give you a break)

  • taxi-fares to help with getting to appointments.

  • help with the housework

  • training in things such as 'safe lifting' or 'sensory engagement' - depending on your cared-for's needs.

  • connection with peer support groups

  • a personal budget to pay for support

To make a start, take our simple Carer's Assessment mini tool. It takes just three minutes to complete. You'll receive a follow up email with a checklist of things to do next, with detail on how to book a full assessment locally.

Get support in your caring role, contact your local carer centre. Find out who is closest using this nifty tool from the Carers Trust.
