Welcome to Mobilise: Information for young carers, young adult carers and families in Buckinghamshire

Updated: 2 days ago

After several years providing digital support to carers across Buckinghamshire, Mobilise was commissioned by Buckinghamshire Council to deliver the full All-Age Carers Service from 1st of July 2026. That means we’re delivering support for adult carers, young adult carers, and young carers, all in one place, as well as online for the first time.

This is new ground for Mobilise, but the team joining us from Carers Bucks, as part of the transition process, are familiar faces who bring their collective experience, knowledge and enthusiasm along with them. We've supported adult carers for years, but dedicated support for young carers and young adult carers is something Mobilise hasn't done before, and we want to be upfront about that.

Nobody understands what young carers need better than young carers themselves (and those around them), so we want to learn from you and your family what real support looks like, rather than assume we already know. Your feedback, however small, will shape what we offer and how we offer it. We will be in touch soon to start the ball rolling with this process.

For now, we're busy prepping some in-person summer activities across Buckinghamshire so keep an eye out for details. We're committed to giving young carers and young adult carers the opportunity to have a break, connect with others, and enjoy their summer.

Join the Mobilise Hub. for online support

The Mobilise Hub is our online community and it’s open right now to young adult carers aged over 18. It's a space to connect with others who "get it", ask questions, and pick up ideas from people who've been there.

"I always thought I was on my own. No one really understood how hard it was. When I found Mobilise it was a life changer for me. I no longer felt alone, unheard and ignored."

However you have reached Mobilise, whether that's through this email, an online search, Buckinghamshire Council or another carer organisation, we're glad you're here. You can get in touch whenever suits you, by phone, online, or in person, and we'll help you work out what support is right for your family.

"It's always good to hear that other people are going through the same as you, meaning that you are not alone."

The summer holidays

Another school year is done, and the six-week summer holidays are here. For lots of children, that means excitement. For young carers, however, it can feel a bit different. Whether it's worrying about how to fill the days at home, or missing the routine and break that school terms quietly provided, that mix of feelings is common, and nothing to feel guilty about.

We've pulled together some resources and ideas to suit all situations, whatever your summer looks like. These include free, fun days out happening around Buckinghamshire, family-friendly outdoor activity ideas, and a few ways to make days at home feel a little more fun too.

Out and about

Our local libraries are hosting free activities all summer, for children of every age. There's African drumming, poetry and art, so whatever catches our interest, there's likely to be a library event for it. Just remember to book ahead, as spaces fill up fast.

If you fancy a day out, and don't mind spending a bit of money, Buckinghamshire has plenty on offer. Get up close to injured wildlife at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital, wander the gardens and maze at Cliveden, or explore the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery. For more ideas, the Day Out With The Kids guide to Buckinghamshire lists over 1,800 things to do across the county.

Time outdoors is good for all of us, emotionally, physically and mentally, and Buckinghamshire has some beautiful countryside on our doorstep, along with several National Trust properties nearby. Their Essential Companion pass means the person we care for can bring up to two carers or companions along for free. For an extra bit of fun, our young carers might enjoy working through the National Trust's "50 things to do before you're 11¾" list, though we reckon it's fun at any age.

At home

If getting out of the house is tricky for your family, or the British summer means another day indoors, there's still plenty we can do to make time at home feel fun. To give you some inspiration, here's a list of 100 things to do if you’re stuck in the house this summer. Whether you've got an hour to fill or a whole day, this list has something for everyone.

Help design our new young carer mascot!

Having a creative outlet to express the feelings tied to caring can really help children, so, as we’re new to the world of young carers, we thought the first thing we should get sorted is a new Mobilise Mascot just for the kids.

Grown-ups might already be familiar with Mobi, who has been sharing his caring life online for a few years now, but we think he needs a super sidekick to represent our new group of superheroes!

We would love it if your young carers could send us their designs over the summer holidays and we will pick a winner at the end of August. They can send us as many suggestions as they like - simply get them to draw it on a plain piece of paper, take a photo on your phone and email it to buckinghamshire@mobiliseonline.co.uk.

Young adult carers

Summer can be an exciting time for our young adult carers. Some are finishing school, others are heading off to university, or starting a new chapter altogether. But alongside the excitement, summer can also bring uncertainty, worry and added pressure.

It's important we take time for ourselves, doing whatever we enjoy, whatever that looks like for us. Here are a few ideas to shake up the everyday and add a bit more fun.

We hope this has given you some good ideas for the summer ahead, and maybe even a few things to look forward to. Whatever your break looks like, big days out or quiet ones at home, we hope there's a little more fun in it now.

We'd love to hear your initial thoughts on how the service could look, what worked previously, what was missing, and what you'd like to see from us next. This is only the beginning, and we're building it with you, not just for you.

Thank you for reading this far - we'll be back in touch in September to keep the conversation going. Until then, take care of yourselves as well as each other.
