Five wellbeing quick wins

Our wellbeing is a serious and important issue. And we recognise that many are us are juggling to make time for ourselves. Starting a new list to help with our well-being might not be top of our list at the moment.

But how about five quick wins that carers like us have been recommending to help us in our day-to-day caring role?

Illustration of three friends celebrating.

1. Get creative with a hobby or craft

There are endless ways to get creative with very little. We can kickstart our imagination with creative writing, or try whipping up a new recipe we've never tried.

A few ideas we have had from carers include painting a rainbow to put in the window, or finishing off a knitting project (after 10 years).

Carers in the Mobilise community have also shared images of their creations of a tortoise from a hanging basket!

2. Lookout for mindfulness or meditation sessions online

Facebook and Youtube are a great start. Take some time out for ourselves today - it doesn't have to be long. Short breaks are just as effective.

Here is a five-minute meditation we can do from anywhere.

3. Shrink down our to-do list and focus on one thing

Achieving and being satisfied with something small is a way of being kind to ourselves. In our Virtual Cuppa for Carers, everyone loved this quote:

"If we say no today we'll be able to say yes tomorrow."

And as carers, we probably have more on our list than most. If we need help around structuring our to-do list, try out our mini-series where we help guide you each (yes, each) step of the way! Sometimes, it's more fun to get things done with someone else, right?

4. Play a song that gets us moving and lifts our mood

A carer I was chatting to today nudged me to dip into some Northern Soul - so how about listening to some Edwin Starr?

And of course, feel free to dip into the Mobilise playlist:

5. If we have a pet, we'll know how good they can be for our well-being

If we don't have one we could have a video chat with someone else's pet. Or finding some cute animal videos! We've met some lovely dogs and cats on our Virtual Cuppas for Carers.

What other quick wins for well-being can you suggest? Do share your thoughts in the Mobilise community and connect with other people like you.
